Our Church History
Our church first started meeting as a bible study group in the Quitman Wood County National Bank. The Bible study met on an odd weeknight so as not to be in competition with normal church services being held here in town. To lay a firm foundation they went through Finding The Rock classes and other studies. As interest in the church grew; and almost 9 months to the day, in the bank’s meeting room our church was born.
The first service was held on September 11, 1983, at Maranatha Retreat Center just outside of town.
After about a year, the retreat center was sold, and the church was given two weeks to find a new location. At that time there was early-morning prayer every weekday morning and all were praying fervently for a new location. As the senior pastor and others were seeking God, the pastor began to pray very specific prayers about the new location of the church. He wanted it to be on Main street here in Quitman. The Lord answered our prayers quickly and as a result, an old warehouse came on the market. That old warehouse has now been turned into the beautiful facility we have today. We later added the educational building and most recently the property on 302 South Stephens Street, which houses our fellowship hall and several para ministries like Celebrate Recovery and Meals On Wheels.
